Sermon

Exposition and teaching forms a fundamental aspect of the Buddhist culture in Bhutan. Buddhist education in the Bhutanese monasteries are provided mainly through the exposition and lecturing. The teacher typically gives an exposition of a core Buddhist text and the students learn by emulating the teacher in giving such exgesis. Religious sermons are also given in large public events by senior hierarchs. Some sermons are exegetical and educational while others are one-to-one instructions and yet others are mere readings to give authorisation.
