Community History

The village and communities in most parts of Bhutan have their own accounts of origin, settlement and existence through the ages. While some prominent villages and communities have written records of their past, most villages have no documentary records of their past. The knowledge and stories of their past are transmitted orally from generation to generation. It is these stories which also form a part of their community identity and result in community solidarity and social cohesiveness.
