Layapai Auwley

The Auwley song and dance of Laya is a unique performance known in the northern community of Laya. It is performed on the 15th of 8th month as part of a ritual of offering of harvest by this highland community. The lyrics of the song contain a great deal of praise to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and also some interesting accounts of his dominion of the southern land and taxation. Offerings are made at different stages of the performance.
