Historical Account and Narrative
Bhutan has a very rich heritage of historical narratives and myths of origin of the country, its communities and people. However, until about two generations ago, a vast majority of the Bhutanese people were not literate. Thus, these origin myths, historical narratives, biographies and personal accounts were passed down orally. Thus, a proper knowledge of these oral accounts and narratives are crucial for understanding Bhutan's history.
