Dirty Language

With little sexual hang-ups and liberatine attitude to sexuality, which is largely influenced by the pre-Buddhist phallic and fertility culture and tantric Buddhist ideas and practices, Bhutanese languages contain a great number of dirty words and phrases some of which are shared between local languages and others which are unique t specific languages. The use of vulgar and dirty language by clowns and comical characters is common in a public gathering. Some individuals, particularly young ones, use such languages in private conversations. Today, young people are beginning to use swear words in English in place of traditional words and phrases of vulgarity.
