Wildlife Knowledge

Bhutanese elders are good at reading the behaviours of animals and birds in the surrounding. They interpret the behaviours of the wild animals and birds to forecast the weather or predict events or impending changes. For instance, cowherders use the songs of the birds to tell time and predict weather conditions, and read the footprints of a tiger to check if the tiger is out for a hunt or just passing by. Using their knowledge of the fauna, gained through experience and passed down orally from older to younger generation, the people maintain a harmonious relationship with their nature.
