Vestibulocochlear nuclei
Consisting of 4 neuronal subgroups located on floor of 4th ventricle. Subgroups are superior, medial, inferior, and lateral vestibular nuclei - helping maintain equilibrium and posture, perception of head position and acceleration, and muscle tone, overall giving rise to a widely-dispersed special sensory system.
Cochlear nucleus where all ascending information from cochlea forms synaptic connections with auditory brain. It comprises 2 subdivisions: dorsal and ventral - the 8th cranial nerve subdivides the ventral cochlear nuclei into the anterior and posterior subdivisions. Then bifurcates into an ascending branch, which terminates in anterior subdivision, and a descending branch, which innervate posterior and dorsal subdivisions.
